Having lived as a Refugee – you are very Familiar with Fear. We never felt Safe and Reality is – we were never Safe. The host country hated Refugees and any day they could lock Refugees in Jail for no reason. Once you get there – it is almost impossible to get out and you never know how long you stay there. Many Refugees died in Jail. We had lived in Fear for years. We could never go outside without Fear of being caught by Police .
The host country did did not want Refugees and if they caught us….they could lock us in Prison for being a Refugee !! There was no Protection or legal rights for us.
Then after so many years of being a Refugee – I came to Canada. I was so happy. I was finally free. There is nothing as Amazing as being Free. Freedom is the Best thing .In Canada- I could move freely around town and I would go outside Day or Night .I would ride a bike. I would take buses. I would walk. No fear that Police would follow me. It was Wonderful to be Free. I enjoyed Freedom.
One time Police officer asked me -if I was lost and I said I missed my Bus. He gave me ride back home. I was amazed I was treated with such kindness and Respect by an Police officer. It was amazing experience. My home country had Police officers who terribly mistreated people. Our Refugee Host country hated Refugees. We had very valid reasons of being afraid of Police officers. In Canada Police officer gave me ride home !! He was polite and talked to me nicely. That was amazing experience for me.
Canada is a good country. We have good roads here. We have good services for people. We have schools for children. The country is organized. They believe in law and order. We have good people here. Every very day when I wake up and Thank God I live in Canada. I am Free . Finally Free. I love this country.
