It takes a lot of Courage to live as a Refugee. A lot . More than you think. Much more.

It Takes a Lot of Courage

I think in a real sense, living a life on this earth -takes a lot of Courage from all of us. We all have challenges that are specific to us. Challenges that only we know or select few. We all struggle. That is what we all have in common.
Still, I would say that being a Refugee is a totally different ball game and a game you would not want to be part of. In that game there are not many winners and nobody is playing. It is for real. It is a battle between life and death, and they wish to land on the side of life and freedom.
They pray daily – someone would say, “ I will Sponsor a family to Canada “
People who say, if that was my relative, I would help. I would not want them to suffer like that. I would not want them to live in fear for 10 years or 20 years…I would want them to live in Freedom.  They would want their loved ones living in Canada and going to work and paying their bills faithfully (Yeah) and just enjoying life with their family in a country that values freedom. Maybe on weekends these families would go to Park and go to a Canadian Church on Sundays. They would love to invite their friends over for cup of Chai Tea. Do you get the Idea?
That is all they want. They want normal life. Go to work and pay bills. Yes, Regular life. There are no guarantees they get their wish and yet they must keep hope alive and not become angry. Or bitter or just give up on life.
That takes Courage.
Because they got to fight against discouragement and all these feelings that draw life out of them. They must fight in prayer – till Peace comes. They must leave their case in God’s Hands and Trust Him.
That takes Courage.

If you know – you are starting a new job, you would be full of Joy because that provides for you and your family and creates stability in your life. It is like having a lottery ticket in your hand and saying…I will be Ok. I got a good job…we will be Ok. Our family will be stable financially. We can feed our family. We can even help others.

Refugees do not have that kind of assurance and therefore it takes a lot of Courage to stay positive and keep the faith and keep going. Only God can help them with that, and they know it and they battle in prayer until Peace comes. They are not bitter people.

Our families are outgoing. Friendly and Hopeful. They are excited and share their stories and life with us easily. They have won the battle in their heart …but we must remember no matter how they smile when we talk to them and take photos…it is a struggle.
